Öğe Analysing Secondary School Students' Vocabulary Tendencies in the Context of Social Media Use(Bayburt University, 2025) Özcan, Halil ZiyaThis current research, which aims to identify the words and word groups that secondary school students tend to use in order to communicate with their friends and surroundings while using social media tools, was carried out by adopting a case study, which is one of the qualitative research methods. The study group of the research consists of 153 students studying in a public school. Two separate data collection tools were applied to this study group, which was formed on a voluntary basis. The data obtained from the research were analysed descriptively and visualised. Based on the findings obtained from the research, it was observed that female students who participated in the study generally tended to use words and word groups in the context of friendship and greetings, while male students preferred mobile game-based words in addition to friendship and greetings. In addition, it was concluded that both female and male students preferred to use abbreviations and foreign language-based elements. In terms of social media use, it was determined that the participants mostly used "Instagram" and "Youtube".Öğe Ortaokul Öğrencilerinin Köroğlu Algısı: Metaforik Bir Analiz(Bayburt University, 2023) Özcan, Halil Ziya; Batur, ZekeryaBu araştırma, ortaokul öğrencilerinin Türk kültürü ve edebiyatının önemli sembollerinden biri olan Köroğlu karakterine yönelik algılarının geliştirdikleri metaforlar yolu ile tespitini amaçlamaktadır. Öğrencilerin sınıf ve cinsiyet dağılımına bakıldığında da en fazla metaforu 8. sınıf öğrencileri (f: 71) ile Kız kız öğrencilerin (f: 130) geliştirdiği sonucuna ulaşılmaktadır.Öğe The impact of ChatGPT-integrated reading activities on the reading attitudes and habits of middle school students(Duzce University, Faculty of Education, 2026) Kaplan, Kadir; Özen, Nesime Ertan; Özcan, Halil ZiyaThis study examines the impact of the artificial intelligence tool ChatGPT on middle school students' attitudes and reading habits during a brief intervention. Twenty-six students from a middle school in Türkiye—13 in the experimental group and 13 in the control group—took part in an eight-session, four-week quasi-experimental study. Both quantitative and qualitative data were collected using a sequential explanatory mixed-methods approach. Data was gathered and analyzed using the Attitudes and Habits towards Reading Scale, the Digital Literacy Scale, and focus group interviews. Preliminary results indicate that students in the experimental group had better reading habits and attitudes than those in the control group. After the ChatGPT intervention was implemented, the experimental group's students showed a significant improvement in their positive attitudes toward reading. However, the experimental group also showed an unexpected increase in negative reading attitudes, warranting further investigation. Three primary themes, covering both the advantages and disadvantages of the application, were identified from the student interview data. These results highlight how artificial intelligence (AI) technologies present a potentially novel way to boost reading motivation in educational settings. However, to use these technologies effectively, educators and students must acquire more knowledge and skills. Longer-term studies with larger sample sizes are also required to validate these initial findings. © 2026, Duzce University, Faculty of Education. All rights reserved.
