    A Section From The Sports Choice Of Boys: Football Phenomenon

    The aim of this research is to describe the self-evaluation of the parents who have an influence on their children's orientation towards football, what their decisive and supportive roles are at this point, and their future expectations. The study group of the research consists of the parents of boys aged 12-14 who play in the infrastructure of Ankaragucu and Genclerbirligi sports clubs. A total of 16 parents, 13 fathers and 3 mothers, participated in the research. In the resarch, a qualitative research method was used, and a phenomenological design was preferred. Semi-structured interview technique was used as a data collection tool. The data were analyzed using descriptive and content analysis techniques. It has been determined that children's own orientation factors are more dominant than parental orientation factors. It has been observed that the factors of interest, desire and love for football are at the forefront in children's orientation towards football.. Some parents stated that their past experience and interest in football had an impact on directing their children to football. Parents Mentioning some of the developmental dimensions that the football branch can create on their children; They stated that they were directed to this sport especially in terms of health and later career, financial, social and personal development. Parents stated that they provide the necessary support for their children's participation and maintenance in football. Research findings reveal that parents' most prominent expectations for their children's football career are about the popularity of football and financial gain.
