The Predictive Power of Parental Achievement Pressure and Academic Stress on School Burnout Among Secondary School Students

This study examined the role of academic stress and parental achievement pressure, which pose significant risks for school burnout among secondary school students. The research employed a quantitative research design, specifically the correlational survey model. The sample of the study consisted of 983 students enrolled in three schools in the central district of Düzce during the 2022-2023 academic year. Data were collected using three Likert-type scales: the Parental Achievement Pressure and Support Scale, the Academic Expectations-Related Stress Inventory, and the School Burnout Scale. When examining the relationships between the variables in the study, it was found that there was a positive, statistically significant, and low-level relationship between parental achievement pressure and academic stress, a positive, statistically significant, and moderate-level relationship between parental pressure and school burnout, and a positive, statistically significant, and low-level relationship between academic stress and school burnout. The predictive power of parental achievement pressure and academic stress on school burnout was determined to be 12.2%.
