An Examination of Volunteer Motivation Among Individuals Participating in Sports Events Across Different Disciplines
(Bayburt University, 2025) Güzel, Sema; Yaman, M. Sibel; Yel, Kader; Çakır, Zekai; Gönen, Mevlüt; Ceyhan, Mehmet Ali; Aydemir, Burakhan
The purpose of this study is to determine the motivation levels of volunteers involved in sports events and to examine whether these levels differ according to selected demographic and sport-related variables. Volunteer motivation is addressed as a multidimensional construct encompassing individual interests, goal orientation, and social solidarity. Designed as a descriptive study based on the relational survey model, the research was conducted with 399 volunteers actively engaged in various individual and team sports. Data were collected using Google Forms, which included the Sports Events Volunteer Motivation Scale (SEVMS) and a demographic information form developed by the researcher. The internal consistency coefficient of the scale for the present sample was calculated to be 0.810. Data analysis included independent samples t-tests, one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA), and Pearson correlation analysis. The findings indicate that volunteer motivation exhibits a multidimensional structure. The total motivation score was found to be strongly associated with the purposive and solidarity dimensions of motivation. Statistically significant differences were identified in total motivation and several sub-dimensions according to gender, active participation in sports, type of sport, income level, and age. Higher motivation levels were observed among individuals who actively engage in sports, participate in team sports, belong to higher-income groups, and are aged 27 years or older. Nevertheless, the effect sizes were predominantly small to small-to-moderate, suggesting that these variables exert a statistically significant yet limited influence on volunteer motivation. In conclusion, sports volunteering appears to be shaped by both individual and social–communal components, underscoring its inherently multidimensional nature. Accordingly, volunteer management practices in sports organisations should be supported by flexible and inclusive programs that are responsive to diverse motivational profiles..

Effects of Different Plyometric Training on Some Biomotor and Taekwondo Technical Performance in Taekwondo Athletes
(Ataturk Univ, 2025) Kul, Murat; Aydemir, Burakhan
The aim of this study is to examine the effects of different plyometric training methods on the biomotor and taekwondo technical performance of 14-16-year-old taekwondo athletes. The study utilized two different training methods: plyometric exercises on sand and plyometric exercises on taekwondo mats, with a control group performing only regular taekwondo training. The study included 66 athletes, all with at least 5 years of taekwondo experience, from Trabzon, Turkey, in 2024. Participants were divided into two experimental groups: Group 1, performing plyometric exercises on sand, and Group 2, performing plyometric exercises on taekwondo mats. After an 8week training program, biomotor and technical performance tests were applied to all groups for comparison. The data were tested for normal distribution using the Kolmogorov-Smirnov test, and since the data did not show normal distribution, non-parametric tests were used for analysis. Wilcoxon tests were applied for within-group comparisons, while Kruskal-Wallis tests were used for between-group comparisons. In cases where significant differences were found, Post hoc multiple comparison tests with Bonferroni correction were used to identify which groups showed the differences. The results showed that all groups demonstrated significant improvements in biomotor and technical performance parameters after the training programs. Group 1, the sand-based plyometric training group, showed more pronounced improvements in speed, agility, jump, balance, and technical performance parameters. The findings suggest that sand-based plyometric training has a significant impact on sports requiring speed, power, endurance, and technical skills, such as taekwondo.

(Hasan ŞAHAN, 2023) Aydemir, Burakhan; Kul, Murat; Kırkbir, Fatih
The study aimed to examine the relationship between the psychological resilience levels of taekwondo players and their state and trait anxiety levels.Taekwondo is a martial art originating from the Far East. Taekwondo is a very popular sport in our country because it is an Olympic sport. In the literature, the contribution of Taekwondo sport to both physical and mental development is expressed. Normally, 3 rounds are played over 2 minutes, and the competition may conclude at the end of the 2nd round, provided that the athletes close the rounds with a 2-0 advantage. Athletes play an average of 6-8 competitions a day and experience a high physical and mental process until the end of the day. It is thought that the competition process may cause some psychological processes in athletes. In this process; Athletes are expected to experience some psychological processes such as anxiety, worry, fear and stress. The universe of the study consisted of 270 taekwondo athletes participating in the U-21 Taekwondo Turkey Championship. While 130 of the participants were male athletes, the remaining 140 were female participants. While 72 participants were national athletes, the age range of the total participants was found to be 16-20. The data were collected from the athletes through a questionnaire during the Turkish Taekwondo Championships. The athletes were informed before the weigh-in and they were asked to fill in the questionnaires on a voluntary basis. The completed questionnaires were collected from the athletes and stored. The socio-demographic information form for the demographic information of the athletes, the Brief Psychological Resilience Scale, and the STAI-I and STAI-II Anxiety Scales (Stated and Continuous) were used to collect the data. The analyses done in line with the options specified by the athletes were made in the SPSS 23.0 program. After the reverse items of the scales were translated, the scores obtained from the scales were summed. Then, the data were evaluated with Kolmogorov Smirnov analysis of normality. According to the results of the normality test, it was determined that the data showed normality. According to the demographic variables of the athletes, t-test was used in independent groups for paired groups and Tukey-corrected One Way Anova test was used for groups of more than two. (Mdpi, 2025) Aydemir, Burakhan; Aydogan, Muhammed Talha; Boz, Emre; Kul, Murat; Kirkbir, Fatih; Ozkara, Abdullah Bora
This study aimed to examine the validity and reliability of the AI-based DeepSport application by comparing its outcomes with those from the reference device, OptoJump. The primary dependent variables measured were jump height and anaerobic power during vertical jump assessments. Twelve elite male basketball players voluntarily participated in the study (age = 21.53 +/- 1.14 years; sports experience = 6.47 +/- 1.01 years). DeepSport uses AI-based image processing from standard cameras, while OptoJump uses optical sensor technology. Both DeepSport and OptoJump systems were utilized to assess participants' Countermovement Jump (CMJ) and Squat Jump (SJ) performances. A G*Power (version 3.1.9.7) analysis determined the required sample size, adopting a 95% confidence level, 90% test power, and an effect size of 0.25. Validity assessments were conducted using Bland-Altman plots and ordinary least products (OLP) regression analysis, while reliability was evaluated through intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC), coefficient of variation (CV), standard error of measurement (SEM), and smallest detectable change (SDC) analyses. DeepSport showed excellent reliability in CMJ and SJ tests with ICC values > 0.90, and CV ranged between 2.12% and 4.95%. Results were consistent with OptoJump, showing no significant differences according to t-test results (p > 0.05). Bland-Altman analyses indicated no systematic bias and random distribution. These findings confirm that both DeepSport and OptoJump devices demonstrate high reliability and consistency, suggesting their validity and reliability for use in athlete performance assessments by coaches and athletes.
