    Education in Disaster Situations: The Impact of The Kahramanmaraş Earthquake on Teachers' Experiences

    This study examines how the earthquake that occurred on February 6, 2023, in Kahramanmaraş, Turkey, has affected educational activities in the region. The research utilized questionnaires to survey teachers and gather information about the main problems they experienced after the earthquake and their solution suggestions. The findings provide valuable insights for educators and policymakers to tackle the challenges teachers and students face after a natural disaster. The study employed a basic qualitative research design within qualitative research methods. The study group comprised 42 volunteer teachers from eleven different Turkish provinces at various education levels who experienced the February 6, 2023, earthquake centered in Kahramanmaraş and participated in educational activities in the same area following the earthquake. The group of research participants was selected through easily accessible case sampling, one of the types of purposeful sampling. The data collected underwent content analysis. As per the study results, teachers detected issues that have arisen after the earthquake in the realms of educational infrastructure, psychosocial well-being, security, communication, and other factors. They then devised individual and collaborative solutions to address these challenges. Additionally, the study discussed the proposed solutions of teachers for addressing the psychosocial issues that students face in the aftermath of an earthquake. It provides crucial insights for comprehending the problems in post-earthquake education and extending support to students. Teachers' recommendations for enhancing earthquake education and awareness can significantly aid future preparedness and crisis management.

    Natural Disaster Awareness of Social Studies Teachers After the Kahramanmaraş Earthquakes in Turkey

    This study aims to investigate whether social studies teachers (SSTs) in Turkey have sufficient awareness of natural disasters within the context of the elementary social studies curriculum following the two major earthquakes that occurred in Kahramanmaraş on February 6, 2023. The research group consisted of 20 SSTs working in the province of Hatay during the 2022-2023 academic year, a region significantly affected by the earthquakes centered in Kahramanmaraş. A case study design was employed in this research. Data were collected using a semi-structured interview form consisting of fifteen open-ended interview questions. Content analysis and descriptive analysis methods were employed to analyze the data. The findings revealed that SSTs had deficiencies in their knowledge of types of disasters, their ability to translate disaster-related information into action was low, and they exhibited insufficient awareness of natural disasters.

    VATANDAŞLIK BİLİNÇ ÖLÇEĞİ GEÇERLİK VE GÜVENİRLİK ÇALIŞMASI

    Bu araştırmanın amacı, 5.sınıf göçmen öğrencilerin vatandaşlık bilinç düzeylerini belirlemeye yönelik geçerli ve güvenilir bir ölçme aracı geliştirmektir. Araştırma, Hatay ilindeki dokuz devlet ortaokulunda öğrenim gören toplam 406 göçmen öğrenci ile yapılmıştır. İlk olarak örneklemin demografik özelliklerine ilişkin sonuçlar açıklanmıştır. İkinci aşamada, Vatandaşlık Bilinç Ölçeğinin güvenirliği için Cronbach Alfa katsayısı güvenirliği ile madde-toplam puan korelasyonları incelenmiştir. Üçüncü olarak ölçeğin yapı geçerliği için faktör yapıları incelenmiştir. Bu amaçla öncelikle örneklem yeterliği için KMO (Kaiser-Meyer-Olkin) Örneklem Yeterliği analizi ve örneklem büyüklüğü içinde Bartlett's Test of Sphericity değerleri hesaplanmıştır. Daha sonra Açıklayıcı faktör analizi yapılmıştır. Faktör analizi olarak Principal Compenent (temel bileşenler) yöntemi ve Varimax (döndürme) yöntemleri uygulanmıştır. Faktör analizi sonucu ortaya çıkan faktör yapısına ilişkin olarak daha ileri analizlere geçmeden önce Scree Plot grafiği ile değerlendirmeler yapılarak öz değerleri 1.00 üstünde olan madde sayısı belirlenmeye çalışılmıştır. Böylece ölçeğin alt boyutlarının vatandaşlık bilincini açıklamada ne kadar etkili olduğu ortaya konulmaya çalışılmıştır. Vatandaşlık bilinç ölçeğinin göçmen öğrencilerin vatandaşlık bilinçlerini bilişsel düzeyde ölçebilen, güvenirliği, geçerliği ve ayırt ediciliği sağlanmış ve yaş grubuna uygun bir ölçek olduğu sonucuna varılmıştır.
