Historical Review of Textbook Formal Features and Writing Standards: Examples of High School Physics Textbooks
(Milli Eğitim Bakanlığı, 2025) Buyruk, Arzu Arslan
This study examined how general and formal features of ten high school physics textbooks changed between 1929 and 2018. It also examined the possible reasons for the changes. The method used in this study is document review. The author, number of pages, printing house, and whether the books are paid were examined as general features. Features such as the size of the books, page quality, coloring, use of additional informative elements, introduction, numbering of sections and formulas were also examined as formal features. The general and formal features of the book reviews provided information about the period's technological, economic, and political situation. Standards, guidelines, and regulations in textbook writing have become more detailed. The state printed and distributed the 1929, 1934, and 1939 books. Private and state publishing houses printed the textbooks between 1955 and 1998, and teachers wrote the books. Students purchased the 1929-1998 books for a fee. The state distributed the 2010, 2017, and 2018 books free of charge. Over time, the names of the team that wrote the book, the names of the linguist, and the visual design specialist were also included on the cover of the textbooks. At the end of the study, the paper and printing quality of the textbooks increased over time. The 2018 book includes digitally compatible elements. In addition, the education-training approach is reflected in the titles and additional information items in the book. Textbooks are information sources that provide essential data in education history.

The examination of the 1929 high school physics textbook in terms of philosophy of physics and developments in physics
(Ali Fuat ARICI, 2023) Buyruk, Arzu Arslan; Gündüz, Mustafa
The beginning of the 20th century is a politically critical year for Turkey and the world. There was a regime change in these years, and the Republic was established. Fundamental changes were made in the fields of education and culture as well as in the political areas. While the alphabet of the textbooks was Arabic and the language terms were Ottoman, the Latin alphabet was adopted, and a language revolution was made. In the world, it is a period of revolutions in terms of physics. It has been a century since theories such as quantum physics and relativity, in which the mechanistic view has been criticized, have changed our perspective on the world. The importance of the ideas put forward in this period in the technologies we use today and in current science is significant. For this reason, in the books written during this critical period in Turkey, how many developments in physical science were followed and how the terms changed were examined in this study. At the end of the study, except for the Aether view and periodic table, it was concluded that the 1929 book generally was up-to-date according to its period. The French influence was seen in the 1929 book. It has been seen that essential concepts in physics continue in the Newtonian view. But, electromagnetic waves and the "field approach" took place in this book.
