Öğe Examination of prospective teachers' perceptions of homeland: A phenomenological study(Eyup Artvinli, 2019) Degirmenci, YavuzHomeland can be described as the territory in which people who are bound to each other with several ties and have common values. It's one of the most valuable heritages which has been left to us from former generations, and will be transformed to future generations. There are great responsibilities on us, families, education and especially our teachers as an important elements of education to protect and transfer it to future generations. The reason is that patriotism begins in the family and continues in educational environments. An examination of the renewed primary and secondary education programs in terms of general objectives and contents revealed that there is a conscious effort for children to gain such values as consciousness and love for the homeland, and patriotism in especially social sciences and geography classes. Therefore, perceptions of prospective teachers regarding homeland, who will raise future generations, are important. The purpose of this research is to study perceptions of prospective teachers regarding the concept of homeland. The population of the study consists of 157 prospective classroom teachers, 98 of whom are females and 59 males, who were being educated in three different departments (social studies, Turkish and classroom teaching) in the Fall semester of 2018-2019 Academic Year. Phenomenology, a qualitative research method, has been employed in the research. The data collected were analyzed by the technique of content analysis. According to the findings of the research, the prospective social studies teachers came up with 28, prospective classroom teachers came up with 27 and prospective Turkish teachers came up with 28 valid metaphors about the concept of homeland, which makes a total of 83 different metaphors. In addition, the participants' most preferred metaphors about the concept were the metaphors of mother, home, family, house and earth. © RIGEO 2019.Öğe Examining the Earthquake Awareness Levels of Teacher Candidates in Terms of Various Variables(Afet ve Acil Durum Yonetimi Baskanligi (AFAD), 2024) Degirmenci, Yavuz; Altunay, FurkanEarthquakes are one of the most important and destructive natural disasters that frequently occur both in the world and in Türkiye, affecting living things and the environment, especially humans, in various aspects. It is a fact that despite today's technological possibilities and knowledge, the desired level has not yet been reached in preventing and predicting earthquakes. However, as with other disasters, individuals' preparedness and awareness for earthquakes is effective in reducing the damage of earthquakes. The aim of this research is to examine the earthquake awareness levels of university students in terms of various variables. The research was conducted based on a quantitative approach. "Earthquake Awareness Scale" was used as a data collection tool in the research. Jamowi statistical program was used to analyze the data. The study group of the research consists of undergraduate students studying at the faculty of education of a state university in Türkiye in the 2022-2023 academic year. According to the findings of the research; It was determined that the earthquake awareness levels of the participants were generally high, and while there was no significant difference in terms of gender and grade point average, there was a difference according to the department variable. All rights reserved.Öğe Values in Geography Teaching Curriculum(Karabuk Univ, 2018) Degirmenci, YavuzThe aim of this research is to examine Geography curriculum in terms of values, which is renewed in 2017. For this purpose, which values take place in the program, the relation between values and learning outcomes, distribution of values to class levels and learning areas are examined. Document analysis as a qualitative research method is used in current research. As a result, it is found out that ten (10) different values are included in the Geography curriculum. It is noticed that values are included each grades' teaching materials in the curriculum. Additionally, it is found that numbers of the learning outcomes related to the values are intensified in 10th and 11th grades, those numbers were at a lower level in the 9th grade. When the distribution of value numbers due to learning areas is examined, natural systems subject has the highest one, global environment: regions and countries learning subject has the lowest number in terms of value distribution. As a result, it is decided the renewed program aims to raise awareness on values. Suggestions have been provided based on these results.
