Öğe Optimization of Ethanol Extraction Conditions From Sun-Dried Apricot and Prediction of Antioxidant, Phenolic, and Flavonoid Contents and Their Effects on HCT116 Cells Using Artificial Neural Networks(Wiley, 2025) Topcu, Kubra Cinar; Gueven, Sara Altun; Cakir, Ozlem; Anlar, Pinar; Durul, Melekber Sulusoglu; Ay, Mizgin; Ercisli, SezaiThis study aimed to optimize the ethanol extraction conditions of sun-dried apricot (Prunus armeniaca L.) and evaluate the antioxidant capacity, phenolic, and flavonoid contents of the obtained extracts. Response surface methodology (RSM) was applied to determine the optimal extraction conditions, which were identified as 60 degrees C temperature, 34% ultrasonic power, 46 min sonication time, and a 4 g/mL solid-liquid ratio. Under these conditions, the extract exhibited a total phenolic content (TPC) of 4.20 mg GAE/g, a total flavonoid content (TFC) of 7.09 mg QE/g, a DPPH (2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl) radical scavenging capacity of 1.37 mg TE/g, a ferric reducing antioxidant power (FRAP) value of 9.12 mg TE/g, and a thiobarbituric acid reactive substances (TBARS) level of 1.69 mg MDA/g. The artificial neural network (ANN) model provided highly accurate predictions for these parameters. Additionally, cell culture experiments demonstrated that the extract exerted a dose-dependent cytotoxic effect on HCT116 colon cancer cells, significantly reducing their viability. These findings highlight the potential of sun-dried apricot extracts as natural antioxidants with possible applications in the functional food and pharmaceutical industries.Öğe ORGANIC ACIDS, SUGARS AND MINERAL CONTENT OF CHERRY LAUREL (LAUROCERASUS OFFICINALIS ROEM.) ACCESSIONS IN TURKEY(Publ House Bulgarian Acad Sci, 2016) Esringu, Aslihan; Aksic, Milica Fotiric; Ercisli, Sezai; Okatan, Volkan; Gozlekci, Sadiye; Cakir, OzlemIn this study we report on the content of organic acids, sugars and minerals in the pulps of the twelve cherry laurel accessions most commonly consumed in eastern Black Sea Region. Malic acid was the dominant organic acid ranged from 43.27 (CL6) to 54.23 (CL3) mg/100 g fresh weight basis. The dominant sugars were glucose and fructose in the pulps that ranged from 4.83 (CL1) to 5.74 (CL5) mg/100 g and 4.66 (CL3) to 5.53 (CL7) mg/100 g, respectively. The pulp of cherry laurel was shown to be rich in potassium (187-241 mg), phosphorus (26-45 mg), calcium (15-22 mg), magnesium (15-24 mg) and sodium (3.9-6.1 mg) in 100 g fruit pulp. The data may be useful in selecting wild edible fruit species appropriate for incorporation into diets.Öğe PHYTOCHEMICAL PROFILES OF WILD GROWN BLACKBERRY AND MULBERRY IN TURKEY(Univ Life Sciences Lublin, 2016) Akin, Meleksen; Eyduran, Sadiye Peral; Ercisli, Sezai; Yilmaz, Ilker; Cakir, OzlemBlackberry and mulberry are main berry crops grown in Black Sea region mostly in humid shade forest areas and its important for local people's diet and also important for the maintenance of their health and prevention of disease. Present study aimed to determine the content of vitamin C, organic acids (citric acid, tartaric acid, oxalic acid, malic acid, succinic acid, fumaric acid), sugars (glucose and fructose) and phenolic compounds (catechin, rutin, quercetin, chlorogenic acid, ferulic acid, o-coumaric acid, p-coumaric acid, caffeic acid, syringic acid, vanillic acid, and gallic acid), as well as antioxidant capacity (Trolox Equivalent Antioxidant Capacity, TEAC assay) in the wild grown blackberry and mulberry fruit. Among phenolic acids, chlorogenic acid was the predominant for all wild grown blackberries, white and black mulberries. The presence of oxalic acid was only detected in the wild blackberry genotype. As a result, the phytochemical recognition of the wild grown blackberry, black and white mulberries might contribute to forthcoming investigations for developing the efficiency of food industry.Öğe Seed-Propagated Summer Apples: Great Morphological and Biochemical Diversity(Mdpi, 2021) Karatas, Neva; Ercisli, Sezai; Bozhuyuk, Mehmet Ramazan; Cakir, Ozlem; Necas, Tomas; Ondrasek, IvoThe northeastern Anatolia region of Turkey is one of the richest plant biodiversity areas in Turkey. This study describes some important tree and fruit characteristics of 20 seed-propagated summer apple genotypes from northeastern Anatolia using morphological and biochemical markers. The genotypes were evaluated morphologically for tree growth habit, ripening date, fruit weight, fruit firmness, fruit shape, fruit color, fruit taste, juiciness and aroma. The biochemical characteristics measured were organic acids, SSC (soluble solid content), titratable acidity, vitamin C, total phenolic content and antioxidant capacity. We found significant differences for most of the morphological and biochemical characteristics. The genotypes exhibited quite diverse harvest dates ranging from 4 July to 16 August. Summer apple genotypes had fruit weight between 101.9 g and 133.5 g. The genotypes had diverse fruit shapes, including round, conic and oblate, and over fruit colours such as pink, red, yellow and green. Genotypes GUM7 and GUM13 stood out for fruit weight, SSC, total phenolic and antioxidant capacity. GUM7 and GUM13 present dissimilarity from the other genotypes. While the first showed a lower average fruit weight, SSC, total phenolic content and antioxidant capacity, the second revealed higher average of fruit weight, total phenolic content, antioxidant capacity and higher SSC. Due to their favorable characteristics, GUM13 can be used for further crosses with genotypes of other groups, which also present favorable characteristics.
