Pain Level and Medication Compliance of Elderly Individuals with Chronic Diseases: Cross-Sectional Study
(Inonu University, 2024) Semerci Çakmak, Vahide; Sönmez Sari, Ebru
This study was conducted in cross-sectional type to determine the medication compliance, pain level and factors affecting the pain level of elderly individuals with chronic diseases. 154 elderly individuals were included in the study. Data were collected with the Patient Information Form, Geriatric Pain Scale and Medication Compliance Reporting Scale. In the analysis of data; descriptive statistics such as number, percentage, mean, standard deviation, minimum and maximum values, Independent samples t test, One-Way ANOVA and multiple linear regression analysis were used. Of the participants whose average age was 71.82±5.78, 56.5% were male, 43.5% were primary school graduates, and most of them were hypertension (68.8%) and diabetes (40.3%) patients. The total score of the Medication Compliance Reporting Scale of elderly individuals is 19.73±5.38 and the Geriatric Pain Scale score is 53.33±27.68. Among the variables included in the model; gender, educational status, number of illnesses and painkiller use were found to affect the level of geriatric pain (p<0.05) and was determined to explain 47% of the variance (R2=0.474, F=10.579, p<0.001). As a result, it was determined that elderly individuals' medication compliance was high and pain intensity was moderate. It was determined that women, those with low education, those with more than one chronic disease, and those who used painkillers every day/every few days had higher pain levels, and these variables affected the pain level of elderly individuals. © 2024, Inonu University. Validity and Reliability of the Turkish Version of the Death Literacy Index
(SAGE Publications Inc., 2024) Semerci Çakmak, Vahide Semerci; Sönmez Sari, Ebru; Seven, Ahmet
Death literacy is defined as a set of knowledge and skills that make it possible to gain access to, understand, and act upon end-of-life and death care options. This study was conducted to test the validity and reliability of the 29-item original version of the Death Literacy Index (DLI) in Turkish society. The scale was applied on a sample of 436 Turkish adults determined using the snowball sampling method. Explanatory and confirmatory factor analyses were performed. The scale consisted of 6 subscales. The test-retest analysis of this study showed a strong and highly significant positive correlation between overall DLI (.98) and its subscales (.73–.98). The total Cronbach’s alpha reliability coefficient of DLI was found to be.90. It was observed that the Turkish version of DLI was a valid and reliable tool and suitable for use in Turkish society. © The Author(s) 2022.
