Öğe Examining Primary School Students' Problem Solving Skills and Attitudes towards STEM (TRNC Sample)(Bayburt University, 2025) Serin, OguzThe objective of this study is to investigate the problem-solving skills and attitudes toward STEM among primary school students in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC), with consideration given to various variables. A relational survey model, one of the quantitative research methods, was employed in the study. The research sample consists of a total of 220 primary school students—124 (56.36%) girls and 96 (43.64%) boys—enrolled in public schools across different geographic regions of TRNC during the 2024–2025 academic year. The data collection tools used in the study are as follows: A personal information form developed by the researcher, The Problem Solving Inventory for Children by Serin, Bulut Serin, and Saygılı (2010), The STEM–Primary School Attitude Scale, adapted into Turkish by Özyurt, Kuşdemir-Kayıran, and Başaran (2018). For data analysis, Pearson correlation analysis and independent samples t-test techniques were employed. The findings revealed that: Students' problem-solving skills were significantly influenced by the independent variables of conducting experiments outside of class and gender. Their attitudes toward STEM were significantly influenced by conducting experiments in class, conducting experiments outside of class, using tablets in class, interest in project assignments, and participation in project competitions. There was a positively significant correlation between problem-solving skills and STEM attitudes. It has been recommended that science centers be established in all regions of the TRNC.
