INTERNET ADDICTION AND CYBERCHONDRY

In addition to the many advantages it offers, the internet can cause some problems while increasing the quality of life. Using the Internet for a long time can isolate individuals from their family and friends. Online relationships established through the internet cannot replace real life, and although the internet makes life easier, it can present false information to individuals and lead them to negative behaviors. In addition, another problem to be considered is internet addiction. Individuals who are addicted to the Internet obtain the health information they need through the Internet as a result of the Internet being so involved in their lives. Individuals have tended to seek health information on the internet rather than consulting a physician about their health problems, and the increasing prevalence of this situation has led to the emergence of the concept called "Cyberchondria" and described as "the disease of the age". By learning more about the individual's disease, he or she can better understand the prescribed treatment, take an active part in the treatment process, and thus help doctors. In this respect, it can be said that the internet serves as a tool to empower patients.
