    Development of Antibacterial Wall Tiles
(Bayburt University, 2021) Sakarya, Gamze Karakedi; Ubay, Elif
Ceramic tiles have superior properties such as high mechanical properties, chemical durability, and stain resistance in addition to aeshetic properties. It is widely encountered in hospitals, operating theaters, commercial buildings, schools, houses and kitchens. In clinical, industrial and home settings, mortality rates of pathogenic microorganisms like bacteria, fungi and viruses due to potential skin contact are remarkable. Hospital infections and various dermatomes are among potential healht risks. Particularly, bacteria that can easily be found (in the blood, etc.) on the grounds in hospital pose a great risk for human health. In such circumstances, the importance of antibacterial tiles for human health becomes evident. Accordingly, the necessity of antibacterial floor materials in clinical, industrial and domestic areas is an indisputable fact. In this project, silver-added antibacterial Seranit Granit Seramik is integrated into wall glaze and was subjected to ISO 22196 an antibacterial effectiveness test. While antibacterial activity is provided in the glaze with 1% antibacterial powder addition, it is not provided in the glaze with 0.5% addition. Furthermore, any error was not observed on the glaze surfaces. EDX analysis gave a result confirming the antibacterial activity test result. The antibacterial powder slightly changed the color properties of the glaze, but it was within the standards.
