Öğe Political Movements and Parties in Uzbekistan(BİLGİTOY BİLGİ, BİLİM, EĞİTİM,ARAŞTIRMA, GELİŞTİRME VE STRATEJİ DERNEĞİ, 2024) Yazici, SinanPolitical parties are institutions that shape the political lives of today's societies. At the same time, they have an important role in guiding the formation and development of political will in countries, influencing the political participation and decision-making processes, and exercising political power. In Uzbekistan, political parties, like other democratic countries, have an important place in the country's politics as an important element of political life. This study examined the political parties established in Uzbekistan, an independent state in 1991. The data in the study were obtained as a result of examinations of Turkish, Uzbek and English publications and websites. The Kerimov administration envisioned a democratic regime dominated by a multi-party system within the framework of a secular ideology. However, it has adopted the understanding of a gradual transition to this regime. The country's political structure has transformed from a system in which the executive branch was strong and this power was concentrated in the president to a semi-presidential system with the Constitutional referendum held in 2023. In the country, whose political structure is built in a very centralized way, political life is shaped accordingly. Within the framework of the initially adopted secular ideology, opposition formations and parties that emphasized national and religious identity, which were thought to be dangerous for the unity of the country, were liquidated. A controlled transition to multi-party life, which is a requirement of democracy, has been achieved.
