    ENGLISH LANGUAGE TEACHER CANDIDATES' PERCEPTIONS OF LANGUAGE TEACHERS: A METAPHOR STUDY

    Metaphor studies are accepted as research tools by general education and language pedagogy scholars in related fields. It is considered that metaphors are useful tools to investigate and construct teacher's professional life. Metaphor studies generally focus on teacher-produced or student-produced metaphor images and qualitative data are used to analyze these images. The current research utilized pre-service English language teacher's metaphor perceptions about English language teachers. Therefore, the participants of the study will be prospective teachers in the future, their perceptions about English language teachers are quite important to investigate their identity building process. The participants of the present research are 128 English language teacher candidates who are first graders of English language teaching department at Gazi University. The data were collected in 2014- 2015 academic year. The data were collected through a scale which had been developed by researchers of the study. The scale consists of two part that investigate participants' perceptions through metaphors. The data were analyzed through content analysis. The results show that English language teacher candidates' perceptions vary and mostly positive metaphors were used to describe English language teachers. The current research is significant in terms of understanding English language teacher candidates' perceptions about their future career.

    OKULÖNCESİ ÖĞRETMEN ADAYLARININ ÇOKLU ZEKA ALANLARININ FARKLI DEĞİŞKENLERE GÖRE DEĞERLENDİRMESİ

    Bu çalışmanın amacı; okulöncesi öğretmen adaylarının çoklu zeka alanlarını farklı değişkenlere göre değerlendirmektir. Araştırmada tarama modeli kullanılmıştır. Araştırmanın çalışma grubunu toplam 147 öğretmen adayı oluşturmuştur. Araştırmada ölçme aracı olarak 80 maddelik Çoklu Zeka Anketi kullanılmıştır. Uygulanan Çoklu Zeka Anketinin geneli için hesaplanan Cronbach Alpha güvenirlik katsayısı.90'dır. Araştırmada verilerin analizi için SPSS 18.0 paket programı kullanılmıştır. Veriler, betimsel istatistik, iç tutarlılık güvenirlik katsayısı (Cronbach Alpha) analizi, bağımsız gruplar için t-testi ve tek yönlü varyans analizi (ANOVA) kullanılarak yorumlanmıştır. Verilerin analiziyle şu sonuçlara ulaşılmıştır: okulöncesi öğretmen adaylarının en fazla mantıksal- matematiksel zekayı en az ise kişiler arası-sosyal zekayı kullanmayı tercih ettikleri belirlenmiştir. Ayrıca okulöncesi öğretmen adaylarının kullanmayı tercih ettikleri zeka türleri ile cinsiyetleri, sınıfları, mezun oldukları lise türleri ve genel akademik başarı düzeyleri arasındaki farkın istatistiksel olarak anlamlı olmadığı tespit edilmiştir.

    Perception of Peace in Gifted Students (Case of Kırıkkale)

    The aim of this study is to determine the perception of peace in gifted students. Participants are comprised of 12 gifted students who attend to a training center for gifted children in Kırıkkale in Turkey. The study has been prepared in a phenomenological pattern with a qualitative approach. In data collection, techniques such as drawing-writing and interviewing were employed. The data acquired was content-analyzed. As a result of data analysis, three categories related to techniques of drawing-writing and interviewing appeared. It has been settled that the students emphasized values such as unity and solidarity, pacifism and reconciliation along with the concept of peace. It has been observed that the students also emphasized the concept of violence. In the drawings of the students, images of children, sky, butterflies, and birds have been reported to be symbols of peace.
