Özet

The grammaticalized structures that world languages create with various strategies for functional and task language units also contain a universal set of conceptual relationships that carry cognitive clues. It is a fact that should be taken into consideration that conceptual relations, which are often the product of a cognitive process, also have universal value. The conceptual relationships encoded within the language units participating in grammaticalization contain important clues for the analysis of language units; In addition, they serve this purpose with the universalities in the conceptual transitions they undergo. In this context, the diachronic approach, which is an important tool of historical language research, can provide analysis of lexical units in some aspects such as function, semantics, phonology and morphology with the help of these conceptual relations. In this article, the word YWL’ŞY, which is one of the most typical grammaticalization examples in the form of verb+gerundium in historical Turkic language fields, will be discussed and its grammaticalization stages will be examined. First of all, evidence will be sought on how the word that joins the syntax with the function of the similarity preposition should be transcribed. Then, the conceptual relationships of the verbs yölä- and yöläş-, suggested in previous studies for the structure of the word, and their effects on grammaticalization will be evaluated. The universal equivalents of the root and stem proposed for the word and its existing connections will be questioned in the light of the reciprocal semantics. Finally, it will be examined whether the word, which has participated in the grammaticalization process, reflects a dialectical value since it is witnessed only in a Buddhist text (Maitrisimit Nom Bitig). Also, a dating attempt will be made for the grammaticalization process by comparing it with yöläşürü, which has similar grammaticalization and conceptual transition processes as an equivalent form. © 2025 Hacettepe University.
