dc.description.abstractReligious conversion, encompassing shifts from one faith to another or transformations within a single faith tradition, remains a significant topic in the psychology of religion. Köse's Why Do They Choose Islam? conceptualizes conversion as a form of inter-religious transition, focusing on individuals who embrace Islam from non-Muslim backgrounds. The study is based on Köse's doctoral research (1990–1994) conducted at King's College London under the supervision of Dr. Kate Miriam Loewenthal. The sample comprised seventy participants—sixty-six of Christian and four of Jewish background. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews and participant observation, allowing for both qualitative depth and contextual interpretation. The research identified multiple motivational factors influencing conversion, including non-volitional life experiences, intellectual exploration, and emotional or social influences. These findings informed the development of a three-stage model of religious conversion, proposed as particularly applicable to British and other Western converts of White ethnicity. Although academic in scope, Köse's work maintains a clear and engaging narrative style. It contributes meaningfully to the understanding of psychological and sociocultural dimensions of conversion, appealing to both scholars and general readers interested in religious change

Köse'nin Neden İslam'ı Seçiyorlar? adlı kitabı, din değiştirmeyi dinler arası bir geçiş biçimi olarak kavramsallaştırmakta ve Müslüman değilken İslam'ı benimseyen bireylere odaklanmaktadır. Kitap, Köse'nin King's Colloge London'da, Dr. Kate Miriam Loewenthal danışmanlığında yürüttüğü doktora çalışmasına (1990-1994) dayanmaktadır. Örneklem grubu, altmış altısı Hristiyan, dördü Yahudi kökenli olmak üzere yetmiş katılımcıdan oluşmaktadır. Veriler, hem nitel derinliğe hem de bağlamsal yorumlamaya olanak sağlayan, yarı yapılandırılmış görüşmeler ve katılımcı gözlem yoluyla toplanmıştır. Araştırma, irade dışı yaşam deneyimleri, entelektüel keşif, duygusal ve sosyal etkilenmeler de dahil olmak üzere, din değiştirmeyi etkileyen birden fazla motivasyonel faktör belirlemiştir. Köse'nin çalışması akademik bir çerçevede olmasına rağmen, açık ve ilgi çekici anlatım tarzını korumaktadır.
