dc.description.abstractIn this study, the concept of gender equality is discussed in a theoretical framework and its role in the context of sustainable development is analyzed. Within the scope of the literature review, the contributions of gender equality to sustainable development and the structural and practical challenges faced are analyzed in the light of recent academic sources and internationalreports. In the application part of the study, the activities carried out by 11 companies listed in the Borsa Istanbul Sustainability Index, which have published their sustainability reports for 2024, within the scope of SDG 5 are analyzed through content analysis method. In the analysis process, the policies adopted and strategies implemented by these companies towards the sub-targets of SDG 5 are evaluated. The findings reveal that the vast majority of the companies analyzed include gender equality in their corporate sustainability strategies, but there are still shortcomings in terms of some of the sub-targets. In conclusion, it is stated that achieving gender equality is not only a matter of social justice, but also one of the fundamental building blocks of sustainable development; in this context, it is emphasized that it is possible to achieve SDG 5 targets with the coordinated efforts of policy makers, private sector actors and civil society organizations.
dc.description.abstractBu çalışmada, toplumsal cinsiyet eşitliği kavramı kuramsal bir çerçevede ele alınmakta ve bu eşitliğin sürdürülebilir kalkınma bağlamındaki rolü irdelenmektedir. Literatür taraması kapsamında, güncel akademik kaynaklar ve uluslararası raporlar ışığında toplumsal cinsiyet eşitliğinin sürdürülebilir kalkınmaya sunduğu katkılar ile karşılaşılan yapısal ve uygulamaya dönük zorluklar analiz edilmiştir. Çalışmanın uygulama kısmında ise, Borsa İstanbul Sürdürülebilirlik Endeksi'nde yer alan ve 2024 yılına ait sürdürülebilirlik raporlarını yayımlamış olan 11 şirketin, SKH 5 kapsamında yürüttükleri faaliyetler, içerik analizi yöntemi ile incelenmiştir. Analiz sürecinde, söz konusu şirketlerin SKH 5'in alt hedeflerine yönelik benimsedikleri politikalar ve uygulamaya koydukları stratejiler değerlendirilmiştir. Elde edilen bulgular, analiz edilen şirketlerin büyük çoğunluğunun toplumsal cinsiyet eşitliğine yönelik kurumsal sürdürülebilirlik stratejilerine yer verdiklerini, ancak bazı alt hedefler açısından eksikliklerin sürdüğünü ortaya koymaktadır. Sonuç olarak, toplumsal cinsiyet eşitliğinin sağlanmasının yalnızca bir sosyal adalet meselesi değil, aynı zamanda sürdürülebilir kalkınmanın temel yapı taşlarından biri olduğu belirtilmektedir. Bu bağlamda, politika yapıcıların, özel sektör aktörlerinin ve sivil toplum kuruluşlarının eşgüdümlü çabalarıyla SKH 5 hedeflerine ulaşmanın mümkün olduğu vurgulanmaktadır.
