dc.description.abstractPeter Brooks'un Reading for the Plot: Design and Intention in Narrative adlı eseri, edebiyat kuramında olay örgüsüne ilişkin geleneksel yaklaşımları sarsan, anlatının anlam üretim sürecine dair köklü bir dönüşüm öneren bir çalışmadır. Edebiyat eleştirisinde genellikle popüler ya da yüzeysel bir unsur olarak görülen olay örgüsü, Brooks'un yorumunda anlatının yalnızca iskeleti değil, onun dinamik ve kurucu ilkesi olarak yeniden konumlandırılır. Ona göre olay örgüsü, bir anlatının rastgele gelişen olaylarının dizilişinden ibaret değildir; tam tersine, metnin yönelimini belirleyen, okurda arzuyu harekete geçiren ve anlam üretimini biçimlendiren merkezi bir mekanizmadır. Metin yalnızca neyi anlattığıyla değil, olayları nasıl düzenlediği, gerilimi nasıl inşa ettiği ve çözümü nasıl sunduğu ile de anlam kazanır. Brooks, olay örgüsünü okurun metinle kurduğu ilişki bağlamında ele alarak onun anlatıya içkin bir yönelimsellik taşıdığını ve bu yönelimin okuma süreci boyunca okurun beklenti ve merakını diri tutarak anlamlandırma edimini şekillendirdiğini öne sürer. dc.description.abstractPeter Brooks' Reading for the Plot: Design and Intention in Narrative is a work that challenges traditional approaches to plot in literary theory and proposes a fundamental transformation in the process of meaning production in narrative. While plot is often regarded in literary criticism as a superficial or merely popular element, Brooks repositions it not as the mere skeleton of a narrative but as its dynamic and constitutive principle. According to him, plot is not simply the sequence of randomly occurring events in a story; rather, it is a central mechanism that determines the direction of the text, activates the reader's desire, and shapes the process of meaning production. A narrative derives its meaning not only from what it tells but also from how it arranges events, constructs tension, and delivers resolution. Brooks examines plot in relation to the reader's interaction with the text, arguing that it carries an inherent intentionality, which sustains the reader's expectations and curiosity throughout the reading process, thereby shaping the act of interpretation. In this sense, plot should not be seen merely as a narrative structure but as a fundamental principle that governs the energy and temporal movement of the narrative.
